Little did I know, in my early 20s, that the Home League would make such an enormous contribution to my life! My family had a Salvation Army background, but by age 12 I had little Army contact.
As a young wife, I moved back to my home town of Sacramento, Calif. My mother, who had become active again in Home League, encouraged me to attend with her. Childcare was provided for my young son, making it convenient for me to participate. I became a member, eagerly participating in programs; I was inspired by these women and listened attentively to the devotions, as my spiritual life grew. I didn’t realize it then, but God was laying a foundation for my life!
A year after my daughter was born, my young family moved to San Jose. My days were busy with family and I didn’t go to Home League. One day a note arrived from the San Jose Home League secretary. She’d gone to camp, where she met a member from Sacramento, who asked how I was doing. Of course, the secretary didn’t know me, but that was to change! Her note began a new chapter in my Home League history!
For more than 30 years, God has blessed and enriched my life through the Home League program. With Home League members and beloved officers, I’ve shared joys, sorrows, prayer, FUN and cherished friendships! I’ve had opportunities to serve in leadership, projects and presentations of the Home League as well as being active in a variety of other Army programs.
In 2001, I became a widow after almost 32 years of marriage. I’m the mother of three children and four grandchildren—I am a third generation Home League member. When my daughter turned 16 years of age, she became a Home League member. My prayer is that my little granddaughter will follow in the fifth generation, reaping the joys of Home League and the blessings of God.
