Commissioning weekend draws near.

by Martin Hunt –

As we have moved through the past few years, the Western Territory has experienced a natural crescendo…a crescendo of prayer, a crescendo of officer recruitment, a crescendo of financial stability, a crescendo of Bible study, a crescendo of soldier enrollment and a crescendo of ministry involvement.

Commissioning weekend 2010 will celebrate of these achievements in a Crescendo of Praise to God.

The cadets of the Prayer Warriors Session are ready to join the frontline troops, and we as a territory support them in prayer and eagerly await their leadership.

A Bible bowl team from every division will compete in knowledge of Scripture, with the final play-off rounds occurring at the Sheraton Cerritos on Saturday afternoon.

Lending musical support will be the Territorial Band, Songsters, Youth Chorus and Youth Band. The Saturday night program will feature all of these groups, along with dance and drama, in celebration of serving in this present age.

The 2010 Service Corps teams will be recognized prior to their departure for ministry around the world. During Saturday’s late night program in the Sheraton Hotel, Nikole Lim, a former Service Corps member, will present her video While Women Weep.

Over the past few years, we have witnessed growth in our Sunday school attendance, and this year everyone will be invited to share at territorial Sunday school classes, which start at 8:30 a.m. in the Sheraton Hotel.

During Sunday’s lunch in the courtyard, the dynamic territorial youth music groups will provide a celebration in music.

Finally, once the new officers have received their first appointments, we will have the opportunity to say thank you to Commissioners Philip and Patricia Swyers, not just for their leadership of the Western Territory, but also for a lifetime of faithful service in The Salvation Army.

While tickets are all gone for the Sunday meetings, there are still a few available for Saturday night. If you are not able to be present please join the celebration via our live webcast: www.usw.salvationarmy.org
