State senator tours the San Bernardino Corps programs.
California State Senator Gloria Negrete-McLeod recently toured the facilities at The Salvation Army’s San Bernardino Corps, visiting the corps headquarters, church and Hospitality House emergency family shelter, the shelter/training center for Path to Prosperity, and the future site of the Hospitality House.
“I marvel at The Salvation Army’s ability to provide these programs and upgrade their Hospitality House shelter, given the economic conditions of the area, our country and the world,” she said.
Corps Officer Capt. Nancy Ball led the tour, assisted by Advisory Board members Carl Dameron and Brian Cronin, and shelter directors Roosevelt Carroll of Hospitality House and John Fletcher of Path to Prosperity.
The senator saw the work the Army does to reach out and touch the homeless, poor and needy. From the chapel and offices to the kitchens, multi-purpose rooms, and media and tutoring centers, the shelters offer hope to a community that has very little.
Future construction plans include four to six transitional housing apartments on the new shelter property. Resources will be comparable to the Path to Prosperity program.
“I will help in any way I can,” Negrete-McLeod said. “San Bernardino has a definite need for this.”
