Strong leaders are working hard in the Girl Guard program to help girls learn new skills and grow in the love of the Lord. Two such women head this year’s territorial winners.
Rosalie Doom, who leads the San Diego Citadel Girl Guards, was introduced to The Salvation Army at age seven when her mother was receiving assistance. Rosalie joined many corps programs and eventually became Guard leader. She has led the group for more than 30 years and still loves it. By guiding the girls to earning high awards in the program, she shows them that they can be successful in life. Rosalie says, “I enjoy the challenge–it keeps me young!”
Dolores Jimenez, leader of the Torrance Sunbeams, also came to the Army through the social service programs. The Guard program is wonderful, Dolores says, because “It establishes God’s love in girls from a variety of ethnic backgrounds and home environments.” She enjoys the challenge of both teaching the girls and learning from them. Her goal that the girls learn self-respect through God’s love.
