Over 150 people came to the recent dedication ceremony at Santa Clara Citadel, Calif., for The Salvation Army’s new Grace Korean Corps. Among them were eight new soldiers, bringing the total congregation to 40 disciples of Jesus.
Golden State Divisional Commander Lt. Colonel Richard Love shared from Psalm 127:1 “Unless the LORD build the house, they labor in vain who build it.” It was a strong reminder for everyone in the new corps that, unless God is involved, it will be just another man-made institution with no life!
The bilingual service, special music, life-changing testimonies and Korean food all contributed to making it a fantastic event.
It all began less than two years ago when, after eight years of dreaming for an opportunity to start a new corps, Captains Fred and Chris Kim were given the opportunity to plant a corps in Santa Clara. The Kim’s hope is to stay and grow this corps for the next 2-3 years before planting another Korean corps in Southern California’s Orange County, where Koreans comprise 20% of the population.
