On a picture perfect Good Friday, hundreds of Salvationists and neighborhood friends gathered at Crestmont to celebrate God’s message of redemption.
Internationally acclaimed musician Steve Amerson was the guest soloist for the outdoor service, which featured a play by an ensemble cast and cadets from the College for Officer Training titled, “The Shadow of the Cross.”
Written by Major Diane O’Brien, participants included: Major Charlene Bradley, Major Tedd Lowcock, Abraham Guevera, Keith Turton (UK Territory drama specialist), and O’Brien.
Territorial Commander Commis-sioner David Edwards brought the devotional, challenging the audience to respond to the message of God’s love. “The cross is the consequence of divine love. While we were still sinners, Christ died for us,” he said. “…What effect does God’s divine love have on you 2,000 years later?”
Noting that three women gathered at the foot of Jesus’ cross, and that the love of Jesus’ mother, Mary, kept her at the site of his execution, he asked another mother–Major Charlene Bradley–to pray at the conclusion of his devotional. “I believe at times like this, a mother knows how best to pray,” said Edwards.
Chief Secretary Colonel Bill D. Luttrell presided at the service and Training Principal Major Doug O’Brien opened in prayer. Janette Bosanko led the CFOT Chorus. Bandmaster Ivor Bosanko directed the brass ensemble.
