General to participate in commissioning festivities and visit four other cities in the territory.
by Martin Hunt –
It is with great excitement that Commissioners Philip and Patricia Swyers have announced that our international leaders, General Shaw Clifton and Commissioner Helen Clifton will take a nine-day tour of the Western Territory in June 2009. General Shaw Clifton, the 19th international leader of The Salvation Army, is responsible for the work and ministry of this organization in 117 countries worldwide.
General and Commissioner Clifton are dynamic, gifted speakers and will bring bold challenges. As they tour around the territory, our national leaders, Commissioners Israel and Eva Gaither, and our own territorial leaders, Commissioners Swyers, will accompany them. Western Territory officers and soldiers will have the opportunity to meet the General and share in his ministry.
The General will conduct the commissioning of new cadets at the Cerritos Performing Arts Center before traveling to Phoenix (Ariz.), Seattle (Wash.), and San Francisco and Oakland (Calif.). At each of these locations the General will meet in private council meetings with all of the officers of the territory, and then in a public celebration meeting, to which all are invited.
During each open meetingand as part of the Come Join Our Army campaignthe General will enroll new senior and junior soldiers. What an inspiring way to begin service as a soldier in the Army! If you are planning on becoming a soldier, talk to your corps officer soon!
You will want to plan early to be part of this celebration in the West.
