General Clifton meets the Secretary-General of the United Nations.
General Shaw Clifton traveled to New York, meeting with Mr. Ban, Ki-moon, Secretary-General of the United Nations. Accompanying the General were Commissioner Helen Clifton, world president of Women’s Ministries; Commissioner Christine MacMillan, director, International Social Justice Commission (ISJC); Lt. Colonel Geanette Seymour, deputy director, ISJC; and Major Richard Gaudion, private secretary to the General.
Ban thanked The Salvation Army for its global work, affirming the role of faith organizations in alleviating human suffering, and acknowledged The Salvation Army’s work regarding the UN’s Millennium Development Goals.
General Clifton addressed the Army’s work in 118 countries, its work in South Korea—Ban’s native country—and its outreach to the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (North Korea).
