Oakland offers care to mourners
The Salvation Army of Oakland, Calif., provided spiritual and emotional care to mourners who attended the memorial to the four officers who were slain in the line of duty. An Army canteen provided cold water donated by Alameda area Wal-Mart stores as well. Thousands attended the services.
Bozeman explosion
The Salvation Army’s emergency disaster services (EDS) responded immediately to an explosion that rocked downtown Bozeman, Mont., reports Bozeman Corps Officer Major Hendrik Aalders, who stated the Army provided 900 meals, snacks, hydration and emotional and spiritual care to first responders and emergency workers. In addition, due to the frigid weather they supplied more than 60 pairs of socks and 30 hand warmers to the workers. Twenty volunteers assisted with preparing, serving, and delivering meals.
Auburn welcomes newest member
Territorial and divisional leaders— in Sacramento for the Del Oro divisional review—visited the Auburn Corps where, during the Sunday morning Holiness meeting, Commissioner Phil Swyers conducted the service of dedication for little Charlotte Ray Avey Southworth. Parents Bill and Ashlee Southworth are pictured with Swyers and Charlotte as Corps Officers Majors Ed and Joyce Loomis held the flags. Charlotte is a third generation Salvationist and the newest member of the Auburn Corps Cradle Roll. Grandmother and soldier Michelle Talbott was also present for the service.
New appointments
Majors William and Brenda Hathorn have been appointed corps officers – Nampa Corps, Idaho, effective April 29, 2009. Majors Ian and Isobel Robinson have been appointed corps officers – Sheringham Corps, Anglia Division, United Kingdom Territory with the Republic of Ireland, effective – July 30, 2009.
