Skate church
The Salvation Army in Grays Harbor, Wash., has been holding monthly family “Skate Church.” About 40 family members gather together for the two-hour event at the local roller skating rink. Worship music is played, the disco lights are turned on and everyone enjoys family fun, including games and a devotional/prayer time to close. “The program has been a great evangelistic tool, with many inviting their families, friends, even co-workers to enjoy skating and Christian fellowship,” reported Corps Officer Captain Premek Kramerius, who serves with Captain Charity Kramerius. Rink entrance and skate rentals are provided free of charge, with the encouragement to bring a nonperishable food item to donate to the corps’ food bank.
Seasons of Life in Alaska
Nearly 50 women attended the Southeast Alaska Women’s Retreat in Juneau recently, enjoying a wonderful weekend of Bible study, workshops and relaxation, with many of the more adventurous enjoying a whale watching tour. Building on the theme Seasons of Life, delegates were inspired by author and friend of the Army Kathy Slamp, who shared that no matter what season of life we find ourselves in, God has a purpose and desires to use us to bring about his will. “Throughout the weekend the presence of God was very real,” shared Captain Stephanie Dennis, divisional director of Women’s Ministries, “and my prayer for each delegate as they returned home was that they would be available to God’s leading in their lives.”
Puyallup women party
The Puyallup Valley, Wash., corps’ women’s auxiliary recently held its annual Silvercrest luncheon, organized by Vice President Judy Andrews. “The women’s auxiliary meets monthly at the Silvercrest and wanted to thank the residents for being so kind and welcoming,” said Corps Ministry Associate Kimberly Boyd. The women created a fall and farm décor, and served homemade beef soup. A miniature farmers market of corn, pumpkins, potatoes, eggs, squash, and more was set up, and each resident was given a bag to fill with wonderful homegrown vegetables.
