FOLEY HONORED
Major Cindy Foley, administrator of the San Diego Ray and Joan Kroc Corps Community Center, was honored recently at the San Diego East County Chamber of Commerce luncheon with a Women in Leadership (nonprofit) award. The awards are given to honor dynamic women nominated from the fields of art and culture, business, education, government, health care and nonprofit. Selected honorees have demonstrated exemplary character and integrity, along with outstanding leadership ability. Congratulations, Major!

SACRAMENTO HOSTS RAPPER
The Sacramento Citadel Corps hosted Christian rapper/evangelist Minister RMB for its monthly Sunday Night Live outreach event. “The free rap concert featured the music and ministry of a man whose faith was truly forged in adversity’s flames,” said Corps Assistant Joshua Sneed. “His message carried great depth and meaning for many of those whose initial attraction to the event was the music.” Captains Osei and Lynn Stewart are corps officers.

COLORADO SPRINGS KICKS-OFF
The Salvation Army, Colorado Springs, will launch their 2005 Red Kettle Campaign with a kick-off breakfast November 16, reports Kevin Brocksieck. “Doing The Most Good (with your contributions of money, time and resources)” is the theme. The event will feature moving stories of how the Kettle Campaign changes lives in Colorado Springs, and will introduce the 2005 “Celebrity Bell Ringers”—local business people and officials who collect money in their own red kettle for several weeks before the kick-off. Last year, Tim Leigh of Hoff & Leigh Real Estate brought in over $30,000 in donations to the breakfast.

SANTA MONICA TREATS KIDS
The Santa Monica, Calif., corps will be holding a holiday shopping spree for 75 children, ages 5-7. Each child will receive $100 to spend on brand new clothing during a shopping spree at the Sears store in Santa Monica. Assisting them will be volunteers from the corps’ advisory board, service clubs, and nearby schools. The Santa Monica High School Madrigals will sing during the event.

ANTI-TRAFFICKING MEETING IN EL PASO
The Salvation Army’s U.S. National Anti-trafficking Council, composed of representatives from the four U.S. territories, and one from TSA Mexico, met in El Paso, Tex., October 17-19. At the meeting, local anti-trafficking community partners presented on their services to trafficking victims. Presenters included representatives from the El Paso Anti-Trafficking Task Force; Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Border Patrol; Las Americas, an immigration attorney organization; and victim witness coordinators from the FBI and Texas Attorney General’s offices.

Council members strategized with local officials on how to collaborate on trafficking cases, and reviewed portions of a new anti-trafficking training program, which covers how to recognize and serve victims.
