It is the very courtesy of God which is the reason why so often we miss him. He comes to us in such unobtrusive ways in the person of someone in need, in the goodness of those we take for granted, in beauty we are too preoccupied to notice, in a quiet moment we are too busy to use.

Cadets assist at Denver Red Shield
It was a weekend of celebration and fun for Cadets Luis and Korina Acosta and the Denver Red Shield Corps, Colo. On Saturday, July 31, the Acostas assisted Envoys Ron and Roberta McKinney in hosting Red Shield’s monthly Corps Family Day. The corps held a picnic which included a burger and hot dog barbecue, swimming, volleyball, fishing, and rides on a pontoon boat provided by the generous donation of Ivan Tate, a member of the Red Shield Advisory Council. On Sunday, the cadets assisted the McKinneys in the enrollment ceremony for two senior soldiers and five adherents.
Anchorage Pancake Feed
Helps Fight Hunger
Hundreds of hungry Alaskans arrived early at the Delany Park Strip in Anchorage on July 4th ready to enjoy a hot pancake breakfast. The event, in its third year, raised over $3,500 to benefit The Salvation Army’s McKinnell House for homeless families and Kid’s Café, a local non-profit that provides nutritious meals to hungry children.
Chef Al Levinsohn, featured weekly in his own cooking segment on the KTUU Channel 2 Morning News, has volunteered his time to flip pancakes at the event for the past two years. The success of the breakfast, in large part, is from the support of local businesses, particularly TOTE, who sponsors the event so that the agencies receive 100% of revenue from ticket sales.
