At one time we too were foolish, disobedient, deceived and enslaved by all kinds of passions and pleasures. We lived in malice and envy, being hated and hating one another. But when the kindness and love of God our Savior appeared, he saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. (Titus 3:3-5 – NIV)

Wenatchee reaches out
Wenatchee, Wash., Corps Officer Captain Marcelino “Butch” Soriano reports “With the help from Camp Arnold’s outreach ministry team and 17 corps members, we had an average of 61 kids each day at our Son Harvest County Fair Vacation Bible School. The ministry team conducted three sidewalk Sunday schools to let the kids know about VBS. Designed like a camp experience, kids enjoyed crafts, recreation, Bible lessons, dinner, and a county fair competition that included a watermelon eating contest.

Over 450 attended the corps’ 1st Annual Family Fun Festival; 44 volunteers consisting of corps and advisory board members assisted. Maryanne Watkins, advisory board president said, “It was a marvelous idea to acquaint the public with the activities [programs and services] of The Salvation Army. Captain Kim Soriano, corps officer, said “The purpose was to make the community more aware of what the Army is all about—that we are not just a social service agency but a church that strives to meet the holistic needs of people.”

Montana Service Extension
lends a hand
When temperatures exceeded the 100 degree mark this summer, the Salvation Army Hardin, Montana, service extension unit swung into action with Operation Cool Down. With the help of financial contributions from local businesses and the community, 35 fans were distributed to the homebound and to senior citizens.

And that’s not all…at the request of county emergency managers and fire officials, the Hardin and Roundup, Montana service extension units were involved in relief and support services for emergency personnel fighting a series of wildfires, providing some 400 firefighters with breakfast during the Windmill fire. “Thank God for the Army,” said local emergency manager and SA service unit member Craig Taft. “I don’t know what we would have done without you.”
