Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me will live, even though he dies; and whoever lives and believes in me will never die.”
John 11:25
Welcome home
A/Captain Martin Cooper reports on a North American charter jet that recently landed at March AFB. “These troops were returning after five months of duty in Iraq and, boy, were they happy to be on American soil again. I was asked to be part of a three person greeting team that met every Marine as they departed the jet and it was an honor to shake hands with these true American heroes. Out of the 248 Marines that I had contact with, about 100 were choked up or even had tears in their eyes when we said… ‘Welcome home, and thank you, Marine’. I’ve had many opportunities to serve, but today was a special day—it makes all the late nights, many hours and hard work worth it. When people you don’t even know can get tears in their eyes when you thank them…wow! What a great job I have.”
Church in the park
Over Memorial Day weekend, the Medford Citadel, Ore., held its first ever “Church in the Park.” The idea sprung from a desire to do more community outreach. The morning worship service was held on an empty lot behind the church. A worship band played, and church and community members brought lawn chairs and blankets and worshiped together in a casual atmosphere. Captain John Van Cleef spoke on the Kingdom of God. After the service, volunteers working in the emergency services canteen served burgers and hot dogs, while the kids played wall ball in the parking lot. Over 80 people were in attendance for the morning service, and at least half of these were non-church members from the community.

During a recent anti-terrorism exercise, The Salvation Army, with 15 volunteers, worked closely with other groups to coordinate disaster efforts and played a pivotal role in assisting police, firefighters, healthcare workers, and other disaster personnel. “We all knew it was a drill,” said Northwest Division Emergency Services Director Lonnie Franklin, “But in the thick of it, with people crying and moaning and smoke and destruction everywhere, it felt real.” About 8,500 people from 100 federal, state, and local agencies were involved in the $16 million drill.
