by Sue Schumann Warner Everyone who competes in the games goes into strict training. They do it to get a crown that will not last; but we do it to get a crown that will last forever.

1 Cornithians 9:25

As the West’s service teams traveled to the Winter Olympics to share the gospel and minister in Jesus’ name, they went with the prayer support of Salvationists. Prayer is also behind the reports that follow…

DONATE ON-LINE

The Adult Rehabilitation Centers have a new website (www.satruck.com) that allows donors to schedule their own truck pick-up service on-line. The site also gives information about the ARC program, collection center and thrift store locations, and offers a valuation guide for donations. The ARCC Call Center can also be reached with a new toll free phone number: 1-800-SA-TRUCK in addition to 1-800-95-TRUCK.

I LOVE A PARADE

The Anaheim Temple Corps, under the leadership of Corps Officers Captains Antonio and Aide Horta, recently participated in a community parade. The Temple displayed corps programs including emergency disaster relief (canteen), Home League, men’s fellowship, Girl Guards, Sunbeams and the soccer team activities. “We are seen as a great asset to our surrounding community through the service of our community center, our many youth activities, and our church programs,” said Horta.

ALASKA KEEPS BUSY

The young people of the Juneau Corps got into the Olympic spirit when the torch came to town recently. As the crowd gathered to watch the torch run, which went directly in front of the corps building, they gave away hot chocolate and popcorn. Donations collected will help with expenses for the YouthQuake 6.02 Congress.

Salvationists and volunteers in Anchorage delivered doughnuts to veterans at the VA Clinic, VA Hospital and the VA Domicile on February 14 as part of the National Salute to Hospitalized Veterans celebration. This is the 6th year the Army has participated in thanking veterans for their service to our country. This year’s event was coordinated by Major Florence Murray, Alaska DHQ Veterans Affairs Representative.

IN DIFFICULT CIRCUMSTANCES

Two Salvation Army feeding units are serving in Walker County, Georgia, where local authorities have recovered nearly 200 bodies on the property of the Tri-State Crematorium. One unit is serving hot meals and drinks at a family assistance center, another is stationed at the crematorium and is feeding more than 100 recovery workers.

“This has been very hard on all those involved in the recovery effort,” said Doug Watson, Georgia Division disaster director. “A lot of us are thinking about the families of these folks and our hearts go out to them.”
