Disaster Response Unit presented to Army in Brazil
Representatives of FedEx visited The Salvation Army in Sao Paulo, Brazil, in March for an official ceremony to celebrate the company’s donation of a brand new Disaster Response Unit (DRU). The DRU is a custom-made canteen truck that will help The Salvation Army feed the hungry during times of disaster and throughout the year.
FedEx has a long history of supporting disaster survivors worldwide, and often supports relief efforts through the services of The Salvation Army. Since 2006, the company has donated 16 emergency response vehicles to The Salvation Army in the United States, the United Kingdom, Mexico, Canada, Puerto Rico, and Australia.
The company’s past Disaster Relief and Recovery Initiatives have included The Salvation Army’s relief efforts in Haiti and Japan following earthquakes in 2009 and 2011, as well as generous contributions to The Salvation Army’s relief efforts along the East Coast in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy.
The canteen donation was in addition to a $10,000 contribution from FedEx Brazil, which will help meet the needs of the Sao Paulo community.
