In a night to remember, Escondido soldiers hosted a community concert featuring the music of RSV, a gospel quartet—and raised $1,700 for World Services in the process.

The evening began with a Hebrew prayer of blessing and the blowing of the shofar to call all to worship. The first musical harmonies came from Baker’s Dozen, a local men’s music chorale. Then, RSV came and glorified the Lord with their inspiring music.

Hailing from Bakersfield, the group has more than 15 years in music ministry. Manager Jim Reed and the other members (Jerry Unfried, Eric Maine and Don Unfried) are all public school teachers who live out their witness for Christ every day in their classrooms.

John Almgren, keyboards, the fifth member, has more than 25 years of ministry with groups such as The Speer Family, the Stamps Quartet and others, and has appeared on a number of Gaither Homecom-ing videos.

Hand-clapping enthusiasm throughout the event culminated with a standing ovation for RSV at the evening’s end—and a benefit to the Army’s World Services as well.
