Not just a partner in finance, Deloitte & Touche recognized as a partner in mission
by Georgia Tzanidis –
For the second consecutive year, the Western Territorial Headquarters of The Salvation Army presented the Partner In Mission Award during a special chapel service on May 11, hosted by the Community Relations and Development Department, led by Major Robert Rudd. This year’s recipient, Deloitte & Touche, LLP, was recognized not only for their guidance in keeping The Salvation Army financially healthy and accountable, but also for their outstanding volunteerism.
Last year, for instance, Deloitte helped paint the Los Angeles Red Shield building and maintain the community garden. During the Christmas season, they sent teams of volunteers to Salvation Army toy distributions. Deloitte is always looking for opportunities to promote The Salvation Army mission—going above and beyond their auditing partnership with The Salvation Army—making them an ideal recipient of the Partner In Mission Award.
In front of the filled-to-capacity chapel audience, Territorial Commander Commissioner Philip Swyers presented the award to Deloitte representatives Doug Halley, Mark Kawauchi, and Jamie Kim. A video presentation highlighted Deloitte’s social service activities with The Salvation Army—truly illustrating the ways in which Deloitte works with the Army outside of the office.
The Partner in Mission Award is presented annually during National Salvation Army Week, which is the second week of May each year. It is presented to a non-Salvationist individual (or group) who, by virtue of their professional standing in the community, demonstrates support for the mission of The Salvation Army. This year marked the first time that the award was presented to nominees from several of the divisions within the Western Territory. The plan is that next year the award will go nationwide, with awards being given in all four U.S. territories.
