Sisters run Los Angeles Marathon –
TWIN SISTERS SUSAN and Sharon Reimers of Riverside, Calif. display the medals they received for completing the recent Los Angeles Marathon. |
Salvationists Susan and Sharon Reimers, 14, twin sisters who attend the Riverside Corps, Calif., recently completed the Los Angeles Marathon. Weeks of preparation, running eight to 18 miles daily, enabled the girls to turn in times of seven hours, 18 minutes for Sharon and eight hours, 43 minutes for Susan.
Susan and Sharon are the daughters of Norment and Marytee Reimers; Marytee was the first Marshallese enrolled as a Salvation Army soldier in the Salt Lake City Corps (1978). The girls are the granddaughters of the late CSM Overton Clarence and Home League Secretary Ineko Clarence of the Majuro Rita Corps. Overton was instrumental in the effort to bring The Salvation Army to the Marshall Islands and the rest of Micronesia.
Mrs. Clarence now lives in San Bernardino, Calif.
Both girls are honor students, active soldiers and corps cadets, and are two of 16 Marshallese who attend the Riverside Corps. They plan to run again next year and hope to improve over this year’s time.
