criteria for admission to heaven. when the son of man comes to sit on his throne in all his heavenly glory, all the nations of the earth will be gathered before him, and he will separate the people as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats. he will put the sheep on his right and the goats on his left. then the king will say to those on his right, ‘come, you who are blessed by the father. take your inheritance — the kingdom prepared for you. and here’s why. i was hungry and you fed me, i was thirsty and you gave me a drink, i was homeless and you gave me a room, i was shivering and you gave me clothes, i was sick and you stopped to visit, i was in prison and you came to me.’. then the righteous will answer him: ‘lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty? when did we see you homeless or needing clothes? when did we see you sick or in prison? the solemn truth whatever you did for one of the least of these –someone overlooked or ignored …that was me — you did it for me.’. then he will turn to the goats — the ones on his left and say: ‘get out, worthless goats! you’re good for nothing but the fires of hell. and why? — because i was hungry and you gave me no meal, i was thirsty and you gave me to drink, i was homeless and you gave me no bed, i was shivering and you gave me no clothes, sick and in prison, and you never visited.’. the solemn truth when you failed to care for the least among us — for those overlooked and ignored …that was me — you failed me! then the ‘goats’ will be herded to their eternal doom, but the ‘sheep’ to their eternal reward. matthew 25: 31-46 – niv and the message.
