Western Territory officer Major Donna Ames, director of curriculum, College for Officer Training, will be one of more than 50 workshop leaders at the upcoming Renovaré International Conference, “The With-God Life: The Dynamics of Scripture for Christian Spiritual Trans-Formation.”

Held in Denver, Colo., June 19-22, 2005, and featuring Richard Foster and Dallas Willard, the conference is primarily a gathering for worship and teaching. Ten general sessions will address “The With-God Life,” the notion that God has been with a people from the beginning, and continues to invite all who would join on this journey today.

The subject of Ames’ workshop is “Sitting at the Feet of the Masters: Recapturing the spirituality of the Wisdom Literature for Postmoderns.”

“Richard Foster’s Celebration of Discipline was a life-changing book for me,” said Ames. “I have appreciated the ministry and resources of Renovaré for years—both for my own personal spiritual growth and for working with spiritual formation groups. I am humbled and excited to be asked to participate in the International conference in June.

“As Christians, we often neglect the great wealth of the Old Testament, particularly the parts that are hard to understand or don’t seem to fit into our understanding of how a person of faith should act and feel. The great diversity found in Job, Psalms, Proverbs, Song of Solomon, and especially Ecclesiastes, is a rich resource for spiritual formation and a largely-untapped tool for reaching the postmodern generation.”

During the first General Session, Richard Foster will provide definition to The With-God Life. Dallas Willard and David deSilva will then explore The With-God Life as seen in Scripture and the Intertestamental Period.

Conference workshops will directly address the question: How does the Bible serve as the primary written resource for transforming our hearts and minds into the very nature of the heart and mind of God?

Renovaré was founded by Richard J. Foster as an effort in working for the renewal of the church of Jesus Christ in all her multifaceted expressions. Christian in commitment, international in scope, and ecumenical in breadth, it seeks to combine a balanced vision of six traditions of Christian life and faith with a practical strategy that nurtures spiritual growth and spiritual formation groups.
