Singing, seminars, and “stories” combine to provide the elements of an exciting Saturday during Commissioning weekend.
To start the day, some of the best young singers in the territory will be participating in the Territorial Singing Company Competition. All 10 divisions will be sending their divisional champions to the event, which will take place at the Cerritos Center for the Performing Arts on Saturday, June 12, at 10:00 a.m.
Later in the afternoon, delegates won’t want to miss the 1 p.m. multicultural happening in the ballroom of the Sheraton Cerritos Hotel. At the Multicultural Seminar, you can learn what makes your neighbors tick–those who speak a different language from yours, eat different kinds of foods and dress differently from you–and how you can reach them with renewed ministry in your home corps. Don’t miss the International Food Fiesta following!
To cap it all off, the cadets and staff of the College for Officer Training will be presenting the musical, “Jesus Folk,” on Saturday night. Soloists have been auditioned and parts are being committed to memory. But this is a different version of the musical. Everyone who is in the Cerritos Center for the Performing Arts will be involved in some way. Musical numbers will be presented by various groups, including “Psalm 151,” CFOT children, teens, and the audience!
The story is filled with people who have up-to-date problems–and with their historic counterparts, who step from the pages of the Bible. Each of the biblical figures was changed when they met Jesus, and the life-changing encounter still happens today.
