Angoon (Alaska) Corps Sergeant Major Harriet Silva accepted a new responsibility in December 2016–mayor of the city of Angoon, as elected by the city council. When the news was official, she called Corps Officers John and Catherine Quinn.
“She said that her first plan of action of the city was to stop by the corps each morning and pray at the altar for guidance,” John Quinn said. “She is blessing in the corps and for our community.”
Known for its natural beauty, Angoon is a small city on Admiralty Island in southeast Alaska. According to website Unseen Alaska, it is home to the highest density of brown bears in North America and the highest density of bald eagles in the world. Sunset magazine listed Angoon among the “Top 100 Best Honeymoon Spots” in its July 2009 issue.
