The Cheyenne, Wyo., Corps held its Annual Volunteer Appreciation Banquet recently, with 200 of the 1000 yearly volunteers in attendance. Charles Kline, Advisory Board vice chairman, was master of ceremonies, and Dr. James Clark directed and played with the “LoBlows” Tuba Quartet.
Mayor Leo Pando, guest speaker, called Cheyenne the “volunteer capital of the country.” Counting himself a proud volunteer as well, he said “I am impressed, yet humbled, to see so many people who have benefited from local Salvation Army services in the past 107 years of its local operation.” Pando cited emergency food, clothing, shelter, rent and utilities payments, travel vouchers, furnishings and counseling provided by the Army. Most recently the volunteers had served coffee and doughnuts to police officers on duty for special events commemorating Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.
Captains Keith and Mona McRevy and Advisory Board members gave out certificates and plaques. Volunteer of the year was Coach Rod Phillips, AB member and chairman of the Emergency Service Committee, who spent more than 1,000 hours serving the community through the Army. Kevin Trimmer and the Corps Cadets hosted the banquet, catered by Poor Richard’s.
