Envoy Connie Lesar receives award for being as old as her city.

Retired Envoy Connie Lesar, of Canberra, Australia, recently turned 100, marking one of two milestones in her life: not only did she live to be 100, she also received official recognition for it.

Lesar, who attends the Tuggeranong Corps in Australia’s capital of Canberra, was one of 26 Canberra residents to receive a “Centenary Medallion” at a special celebration. The medallion symbolizes that her 100th birthday coincides with the same age as the nation’s capital city.

Made of silver and gold, the medallion features an engraving of Parliament House and the foundation stone, and is inscribed with “Canberra Centenary Medallion.”

Miriam Angus, a soldier at Tuggeranong Corps, said, “Envoy Lesar is a much loved and highly respected member of Tuggeranong Corps who attends church every Sunday morning and other activities as well, and continually supports and encourages [Corps Officers] Captains Fran and Mark Everitt and other members, both young and old.”
