During Sunday night’s conclusion to the Alaska Centennial Congress, Commissioner David Edwards made the surprise announcement that Alaska divisional leaders Majors Harold and Joann Brodin were to be promoted to the rank of Lt. Colonel, effective April 1.

The Brodins were born in Palmer, Alaska, and Chicago, Ill., respectively. They entered training out of Aberdeen, Wash., and were commissioned with the Heroes of the Faith session in 1964.

They have served in many corps and divisional appointments, the previous assignment being as General Secretary in the Northern California/Nevada Division. Both were delegates to the International College for Officers and the Brengle Institute.

The Brodins have five children: Kari Brown, Cadet Lisa Smith, Harold, Marie Carlson, and Kristin Griffin.
