Couple participates in ministry south of the border.
In late January, Lt. Colonels Donald and Debora Bell—Western Territory chief secretary and secretary of women’s ministries, respectively—spent a week visiting corps and institutions in the Capital Division of the Mexico Territory, where seven Western Territory officers currently serve.
They participated in a United Holiness Meeting at Corps No. 1, at which Territorial Commander Colonel Olin Hogan installed Major Candice Frizzell as the territorial League of Mercy secretary (both Western officers). Lt. Colonel Donald Bell’s message, “10 Truths about the Holy Spirit,” helped set the tone for the start of the territory’s Year of Evangelism and Discipleship and reminded listeners of important truths regarding the person of the Holy Spirit, who will give them the power to live out the theme for the year.
In addition to their visit to Corps No. 1 with its day care center and printing operation, the Bells, accompanied by Majors Doug and Rhode Danielson, divisional leaders, visited the Cuernavaca, Morelos corps and children’s home; the Xochitepec, Morelos corps and children’s nutrition program; and the Acapulco, Guerrero corps and children’s home.
In Acapulco, the Bells met with the Army’s advisory board and Lt. Colonel Debora Bell spoke in the Sunday service, asking the children from the home and the adults in attendance to consider personally Jesus’ question to Peter, “Do you love me?” Through timbrel routines and special music the children answered “yes.”
While in Mexico City, the Bells toured the La Esperanza men’s shelter and rehabilitation program—Major James Hood, director—where they officiated at the opening of a boutique for specialty items in the second-hand shop. They also visited the metal health clinic—Major Dr. Sallyann Hood, director—which has been providing low cost mental health services to the people of the Morelos neighborhood since the earthquakes of September 1985.
While visiting the current headquarters of the Mexico Territory, Bell reviewed plans for the new territorial headquarters, the Capital Division headquarters, and the College for Officer Training. Then he visited the future site, accompanied by Hogan, Lt. Colonel Josue Cerezo, chief secretary, and Danielson. This new headquarters, a part of the territory’s move toward self-sufficiency, is being funded by a gift of $5 million from the Western Territory.
Western Territory officers serving in Mexico are Colonels Olin and Dianne Hogan, Major Candi Frizzell, Majors James and Sallyann Hood, and Majors Doug and Rhode Danielson.
