Army kettle participates in Macy’s Portland Holiday Parade

Listen to this article

On Nov. 28, The Salvation Army participated in the 2008 Macy’s Holiday Parade in Portland. Army officers, in full uniform, walked the streets, ringing bells and greeting parade-goers. Two young people carried the Army banner, dressed in red Salvation Army jackets and Santa hats, followed by the 15-foot inflated Red Kettle balloon. Along the route, explanations of what The Salvation Army does in the community and what the kettle means during the holiday season could be heard.
