An “idol” lends a hand
Kris Allen, last year’s American Idol winner, teamed up with the United Nations to pay a special visit to The Salvation Army in Port-au-Prince over the weekend of Feb. 20 – 21, 2010. Allen helped Army officials distribute high-tech laminate cards bearing unique barcodes to more than 4,000 families. The barcodes are tied to the number of family members, their location in the makeshift camp and their needs. UPS donated the technology, which will allow Salvation Army staff to ensure all families receive the right supplies at the right time.
