Hours after landing in Prague, Czech Republic, Cadet Rachel Allemang was on duty at the Brno Corps where she gave the Christmas message at the midnight Christmas Eve service.
Sharing the pulpit with her as translator was “Messengers of God’s Love” session-mate Cadet Jana Hanáková, who entered the William Booth Memorial Training College from Brno in 1995. Together, they presented a positive portrait of the international Salvation Army in action.
The main celebration of Christmas in the Czech Republic is on Stedry Den, or Christmas Eve, the first of three celebration days. The hall was filled with soldiers and friends of the Army who shared in the joy of the season and the international fellowship. The service concluded with “Ticha Noc,” (Silent Night), one of the few Western carols known in the country, and was followed by a time of fellowship, where well-wishers warmly greeted the cadets.
Allemang is the daughter of Captains Jack and Ann Allemang, who serve in Brno as director of the Joseph Korbel House and Brno commanding officer, respectively.
