It’s here—the season of merriment and good cheer. Use these December days to encourage joy and giving with your children, starting with these 10 bucket list ideas:
1. Send a meaningful letter. Sometimes, the best gifts are words. Who can you share good words with this season?
2. Go Christmas caroling. Gather up your family and friends and go Christmas caroling through your neighborhood or to a local nursing home. Or take your caroling to the kettle and volunteer together to raise money for The Salvation Army, knowing that it will be helping people in your community all year.
3. Follow along with our Little Do Gooder family advent study and discover how to take an unhurried approach to advent through an intentional 15 minutes a week with your family.
4. Learn about your family’s heritage. Plan a meal with your child’s grandparents and ask them to share their favorite childhood Christmas memories. Even better, break out the photo albums.
5. Create a little Christmas magic—make a magic Santa key (especially if you don’t have a fireplace) or a pack of reindeer food ahead of Christmas Day.
6. Hide an advent-calendar-like-treat for your little one to hunt for each morning.
7. Plan a cookie party to make and decorate cookies with your family or friends while your favorite Christmas movies play in the background.
8. Start a fun tradition—like unwrapping a Christmas book to read together each night before bed.
9. Pick out a Christmas tree together to decorate and make an annual handmade ornament. Make an extra for the perfect grandparents’ gift from your child.
10. Look for a Salvation Army Angel Tree while you are out shopping and choose a tag from the tree. Have your child help pick out a gift for the child it represents.
