The international Officers’ Support Endowment Fund provides an expression of mutuality.
International Headquarters (IHQ) is calling on officers around the world to donate to the Officers’ Support Endowment Fund.
Established in 2007, the fund provides financial support to fellow officers who live in the poorest and most challenging of conditions—from medical and educational costs to helping with officers’ allowances.
“One of the means by which officers can show practical support to each other is by contributing to the Officers’ Support Endowment Fund,” said Commissioner John Wainwright, international secretary for business administration at International Headquarters. “It offers the opportunity to strengthen the bonds of unity and is a pragmatic expression of ‘One Army’ at work.”
The fund granted almost $250,000 in the past year, and reports received from grateful officers have indicated how support has been distributed—from funding a course of chemotherapy treatment for an officer in India to paying the travel fare for an officer couple in Africa to attend the quarterly spiritual meeting in the division.
The fund is administered at the discretion of the territorial finance council of the territory or command in receipt of the money, and IHQ requires an annual report as to how the funds were used.
“We want to thank the many hundreds of officers who continue faithfully to support by their generosity and ask those officers who have yet to contribute to consider making a donation into the fund,” Wainwright said. “Please be generous and support your colleagues whose calling is of equal value, but whose circumstances are often much harsher than most officers encounter day by day.”
