Host a Christmas camp-out.

Bring out your sleeping bags and set up in the living room for a family camp-out under the Christmas tree. Don’t forget the hot chocolate and carols.

Have a surprise lights night.

Follow the usual bedtime routine, but instead of tucking everyone in, head to the car in pajamas. Drive through the neighborhood to see the Christmas lights. Pack hot drinks and popcorn for a surprise treat.

Read the season.

Visit the local library and check out books about Christmas. Read one book each night in December as a special holiday countdown.

Shop for others.

Take a tag or two from a Salvation Army Angel Tree and have your kids pick out a toy for the child. You’ll spread cheer to a family in need and encourage giving to others.

Throw it back.

Pull out photos from your childhood Christmases and spend time going through them with your kids. They’ll love to see your looks through the years.

Prep your wrap.

Cut a tree or star out of half of a potato and have your kids help you stamp the shape on kraft paper for creative, personal wrapping paper.

Share the story.

Read the Christmas story from Luke 2:1-20 and have your kids draw a picture of the scene as you read. Talk about the parts that stand out most to them.
