General John Larsson (Ret.) and Commissioner Freda Larsson to be special guests at annual event.
It’s time to begin making plans to be part of the territory’s annual spiritual pilgrimage to the commissioning weekend celebrations. Together we will witness the commissioning of the newest lieutenants in The Salvation Army, members of the God’s Fellow Workers Session. These new officers will leave Cerritos on June 15 as leaders, shepherds and fellow workers in God’s kingdom and our Army.
Guest leaders for the weekend will be General John Larsson (Ret.) and Commissioner Freda Larsson. The Larssons will bring dynamic messages from God’s word throughout the weekend and will help us focus on the spirit of the Army. As we continue to work towards spiritual growth in the Army, we will also celebrate what our Army is throughout the weekend.
The Cerritos Performing Arts Center is again the venue. There will be a charge for tickets to all of the events held at the center to help offset some of the cost, and you will need to submit your payment with your registration form.
An international food festival, followed by a dynamic meeting celebrating our international Army, “All Over The World,” is planned for Friday evening. Saturday night will feature “The Spirit Of Salvationism—A Celebration of Our Army,” an inspiring and energetic look at who we are as an Army, through music and drama.
Of course, the main reason for the weekend is the conclusion of the training of our new officers, and the weekend reaches its climax on Sunday with their ordination and commissioning, and the announcement of their first appointments.
Other highlights of the weekend will include the territorial Bible Bowl competition, Long Service recognition lunch, young adult late night programs, and a Sunday morning Starbucks coffee fellowship! Childcare and translation services will be available
The Sheraton Cerritos Hotel has again given The Salvation Army special rates for the weekend; please make your reservation with the hotel directly at 1-888-627-7093. Rooms are $129 – $149 per night, and reservations must be made by May 19; after that date prices will increase dramatically. You will want to book your room early if you plan on staying at this hotel.
More details will follow in upcoming weeks, and registration materials will be available soon from your corps officer.
Start making your plans now to attend commissioning weekend, as we gather to celebrate what the Lord has done and continues to do in our Army.
