The Colorado Starlites, an 84-member girls’ drill team, has been selected by the Zonta Club of Denver to receive a grant in the amount of $10,000. This is the second grant that the Starlites has received from the club for Denver Red Shield’s after-school tutoring program. The Zonta Club is an organization dedicated to advancing the status of women worldwide.
The Starlites perform in major parades and functions throughout the country and the Metro Denver area. “We are proud to partner with the Zonta Club in affording our Starlites the opportunity for educational tutoring,” said Captain Ron McKinney, corps officer at Denver Red Shield. “Last year four girls who are former Starlite members earned college scholarships, and they are now freshmen in college.”
Several of the Starlites are soldiers of the corps and one of the girls is a third generation Commissioner’s Sunbeam.
