Yakima responds quickly
The Yakima, Wash., Home League held their 50th Annual Nursing Home Luncheon recently. This event has had as many as 120 guests; this year, because of prior commitments, the number was down—which proved a blessing, as a car hit and broke off a power pole in front of the corps causing an electrical failure.
Major Debra Dove quickly changed the menu and made a trip to the grocery store; with candles and lanterns for lights, everything went smoothly. HLS Dorothy Woodward who has attended 49 of the luncheons, thought that all Home League hostesses did a super job. Major Agnes Hailes and Lt. Donna Gregg were special guests from Northwest DHQ.

Sunbeams at the Riverside, Calif., corps have worked hard this year. Major Jacqueline Fritz reports that Emmili Penn received an Outstanding Certificate in Language Arts, and Analee Shoemaker received an Outstanding Certificate in Citizenship. Both attend Neil Roberts School.
Sun City reports
More than 1,200 people enjoyed a “free day” in El Mirage, Ariz., filled with food, activities, and programs, reports Lt. Colonel Alfred Van Cleef, who serves in retirement as Sun City corps officer.
Several churches joined together to plan the event. The Salvation Army team did all the cooking and served the food, which included hot dogs, hamburgers, chips, cookies, and tostadas.
Recently, ten folks from the corps visited more than 200 homes in the area, and invited people to a free family night, including games and dinner.

I love a parade
The Portland Moore Street, Oregon, Corps has participated in two parades this spring (St. John’s Parade, May 7; and the Portland Rose Festival Starlight Parade, June 4), and will participate June 25 in the “Good in the Neighborhood” parade.
The float used in the Starlight Parade was designed and constructed by members of the corps and the advisory council. It was decorated in SA colors of red, yellow and blue. It also featured an Army brass ensemble, and a uniformed Doughnut Girl. Captains Robert and Donna Marshall, corps officers, rode on the float and greeted enthusiastic parade spectators. Moore Street teens walked alongside the float dressed in program attire, and carried signs naming some of the corps’ programs and services.
