Red Shield Starlites
win Grand Marshall Cup
Envoy Ron McKinney reports the Denver Red Shield’s Colorado Starlites recently won the Lafayette, Colorado Grand Marshall’s Cup for the best marching unit in the parade. The Starlites, recognized as one of the best drill and drum brigades in the state of Colorado, have performed in nine major parades this year and placed first in six. In addition to being a precision marching unit, their spiritual witness is a testimony to the effectiveness of The Salvation Army’s programs.

Each member maintains a 2.5 to 3.6 GPA in school, attends church, and volunteers for various Red Shield outreach projects. The Starlites will be performing at the Pepsi Center as part of the Denver Salvation Army Christmas Kick-Off program with Colorado Avalanche Head Coach Tony Granato on November 24th.

Stockton karate
program a hit
Captains Kit and Pat Wetter, Stockton, Calif. corps officers, are implementing an innovative recreational program for youth and adults that features instruction on the technique of Kajukenbo Karate. Students can take two, 2-hour sessions per week in the corps’ gym for only $15 per month. Classes are taught by Ray Lopez, a seventh degree black belt and recipient of the Golden State Karate Association 2002 Black Belt Hall of Fame Award. The ultimate aim of the Kajukenbo Karate program, says Lopez, is the development of human character through disciplined training.
