Intermountain DHQ employees went over the top collecting more than six barrels full of school supplies in a recent back-to-school supply drive in Denver, Colo., and the surrounding area.
A friendly competition between employees on different floors reaped a windfall for needy children. Major Phil Lum, divisional secretary for business and Major Don Gilger, divisional secretary for program, waged a full-out competition encouraging employees to get involved. Both majors gave all the credit to Lt. Colonel Harold Brodin, divisional commander.
The drive, called Stuff for Students, is a partnership with 9News, the Denver NBC affiliate, The Salvation Army and Pizza Hut. The partnership strives to put the tools needed for success in the hands of every student along Colorado’s Front Range.
This was the third year of the drive and despite the sluggish economy, more than 6,500 supply-filled backpacks were raised with additional loose supplies for another 8,000 students. Many corporate donors also help by supplying funds to purchase school supplies.
