Mark your calendars now for the 2003 National Advisory Organizations (NAOC) Conference in Philadelphia.

“NAOC will be an exciting and exhilarating event with dynamic and distinguished speakers, workshops that are relevant and resonate, and fellowship that is warm and wonderful,” said Lt. Col. Tom Jones, national community relations and development secretary. “All local board members will greatly benefit from this rich and rewarding conference.”

According to co-chairs Marlene Klotz Collins, national advisory board member from Phoenix, Ariz., and Elizabeth Koch, more than 2,500 members of local Salvation Army advisory boards, auxiliaries, councils, and service extension units, as well as spouses and other interested individuals, will convene from April 24-27 to share ideas of value, discuss common challenges, and be motivated with ideas that will positively affect the communities in which they serve. Margot Perot will serve as honorary chair.

A call is underway for Army staff and officers, advisory boards, councils, auxiliaries and ARCs from around the nation to submit their “best practices” to conference organizers, who would like to offer delegates a compilation of these best practices in fundraising, special events, advisory board development, public relations and marketing.

For submission forms and instructions on submitting a “best practice,” go to the NAOC Web site at https://www.naoc-2003.org and proceed to the Best Practices link and follow directions. Submissions may also be mailed to Lt. Colonel Tom Jones, National Community Relations & Development Secretary, The Salvation Army National Headquarters, 615 Slaters Lane, Alexandria, VA 22314, Attention: Best Practices. Direct questions to Lt. Colonel Tom Jones at 703-684-5521. Deadline for submissions is October 31, 2002 .
