BY CAPTAIN HILARY PATTERSON –

More than 300 delegates attended the Hawaiian and Pacific Islands Division Family Camp, held at Camp Homelani. This year’s theme was “Our God Reigns” and he certainly did reign throughout the weekend.

Special guest General Eva Burrows (R) challenged the delegates with life-changing messages. On Saturday night, Colonels Phil and Keitha Needham installed Majors Ralph and Ivy Hood as divisional leaders, with the dedicatory prayer given by Burrows.

Music played an integral part throughout the weekend. A worshipful hula dance was presented by the Hawaiian Track Halau from the Homelani Music School on Friday evening that helped bring delegates into the presence of God –the Hawaiian way. And the territorial singing company champions from the Leeward Corps presented their winning selections on Saturday evening.

There were also musical solos, including one by Colonel Keitha Needham. In addition, each meeting included a time of praise and worship led by Captain Lisa Smith and the Family Camp Praise Band. Also participating was the Family Camp Brass group.

Workshops were conducted Saturday morning, featuring: “Mentoring the next generation,” “Paul –an apostle of joy,” “How to find those special people (who have a substance abuse problem),” and “Straight talk with the General.” There were also Sunday morning Bible classes.

Recreation included: obstacle courses, climbing walls, a 3-on-3 basketball tournament, volleyball, and, of course, swimming in the ocean–and naps for those who needed a little shut-eye!

Family Camp 2001 was a huge success, as the mercy seats were filled with people rededicating their lives to Christ, with some making the first-time commitment to live their lives for God.
