Mrs. Brigadier Minnie Wiseman (R) was recently promoted to Glory from her home in Pacific Palisades, Calif.
Minnie French, daughter of Commiss-ioner and Mrs. George French and sister of Commissioner Holland French, was born in San Francisco, Calif., in 1901. With her family, she moved to Chicago and then to Seoul, Korea, where her parents were missionaries. She was the first graduate of the Seoul Foreign School. The family was then transferred to Bombay, India for five years.
Returning to Chicago after the death of her father, Minnie entered the Central Training College in September 1921. She was commissioned to the Field Depart-ment at territorial headquarters and remained there until her marriage in 1923 to Captain William Wiseman.
They served together in corps and the Men’s Social Service Department until 1961, when they retired in Pacific Palisades, Calif., attending the Santa Monica Corps.
Brigadier Wiseman was promoted to Glory in 1972. Minnie served faithfully as a retired officer in the community of Santa Monica, being active as a Songster and in Home League and League of Mercy.
Surviving are her son Richard and daughter Millie Corliss in the Los Angeles area, and her son Wilfred of Aurora, Ill. There are six grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Lt. Colonel Herbert Wiseman (R) spoke and Major Ronald Bawden officiated at the memorial service in Santa Monica.

Amy Byrd Jones was born and grew up in Washington State, the child of Salvationist parents and the second oldest of four daughters. As a young girl, she received the call to Salvation Army officership through what she recalls as a “vivid dream.” She entered the Training College in San Francisco in 1925 as a member of the Victory session and was commissioned the following year as a captain.
Following appointments as commanding officer in Puyallup and then Anacortes, Wash., she married Captain John Allen. Together they served for 40 years as officers in places where their names are remembered with affection and their influence lives on. Their area of service changed in 1955, when they were appointed to the Santa Barbara Men’s Social Service Center. Their adaptive and spiritual leadership was affirmed at the centers in Bakersfield, Fresno, and Santa Ana, where they retired in 1965.
Early retirement years saw the Allens in continued service in a variety of Salvation Army settings along with soldiership in the Santa Ana Corps. Until his promotion to Glory in 1986, they lived at Leisure World in Seal Beach. Some time later she moved to Sun City, near her family. Always her great joy was her children , Lt. Colonel David Allen (R), and Mary Lou Hynick, along with many grand- and great-grandchildren.
Internment was at Fairhaven Cemetery, conducted by Lt. Colonel Herbert Wiseman (R). Messages of sympathy may be sent in care of Lt. Colonel and Mrs. David Allen, 30160 Shoreline Dr., Menifee, CA 92584-8053.
