Equipped with their new recording, “Crossover,” the Pasadena Tabernacle Band and Timbrels will hit the road later this month for a tour of the Pacific Northwest with concerts in Seattle, Wash. and Victoria and Vancouver, British Columbia.
According to Pasadena Bandmaster Bill Gordon, the programs during the four-day tour will showcase works from the new recording. “I’m really looking forward to performing the diverse array of selections,” said Gordon, who penned eight of the CD’s 14 compositions and arrangements. “[The selections] cross over from the standard brass band style by fusing rock and jazz elements with the more traditional brass music,” he said. “The result is very exciting.”
Sharing the spotlight on the tour and recording are the varying “stylizations” of popular vocalist Barbara Allen and several of the group’s instrumental soloists including Martin Hunt (cornet) John Docter (cornet/flugelhorn) and David Church (euphonium).
The tour begins with a concert at the Seattle Temple on May 22, followed by concerts at the University of Victoria on May 23, and the Cariboo Hill Temple Corps in Vancouver on May 24. On Sunday, May 25, the band will participate in worship services at Cariboo Hill Temple led by Pasadena Tabernacle Corps officers Majors Chick and Margaret Yuill.
The Yuills, with their special blend of humor and spiritual insight, will also emcee the concerts.
While this will be the group’s fourth trip to the Canada and Bermuda Territory, it is their first venture to the western province of British Columbia.
