Recently, in Marysville, more than $70,000 was raised at the Americans Helping Americans Flood Victims Fund Raiser, with 100 per cent going to The Salvation Army to assist victims rebuild their homes. Chico Advisory Board Member Larry Juanarena, along with Ted Dress and Jim Paiva, did an outstanding job on promoting and putting on this event. Among the many door prizes, a 1997 Ford Esquire, donated by Gridley Country Ford, drew much attention. Corps Officer Captain Ray Yant is grateful to all who helped the Army do what it does best–reach out and help those in need.

A Salvation Army Disaster Team headed by Marilyn Quayle, disaster services and communications chair of the National Advisory Board, is touring flood areas in the Dakotas, assessing damages. Army mobile relief units are providing meals and temporary shelter to displaced families and workers, and dispensing clean-up kits.

LITERACY CLASSES

The Women’s Auxiliary at the San Bernardino, Calif., Corps (Majors Russ and Jacque Fritz) sponsor these popular classes. Thanks to Helen Marie Carlson and the Highland Public Library for sharing their expertise.

SUNRISE AT ARCs

Lt. Dennis Earnhart, administrator, says more than 400 attended the Easter Sunrise service in the beautiful surroundings of the Lytton ARC. Colonels Dennis and Noella Phillips and Majors Daniel and Helen Starrett were special guests, with Phillips providing an excellent sermon on the resurrection of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Major Kenneth Gibson, Sacramento ARC administrator, reports tremendous success at their 8th Annual Sunrise Service, held at the loading dock. Supported by the corps, the ARC prepares bread and broth and is responsible for the program. More than 300 were present this year.

MLK GRADS “PINNED”

Seven people have just completed the Master Leaders’ Key Plan and have received their pins. Congratulations to Major Cecille Bowman, Kenneth and Charles Snyder, Kitty, Katrina and Mike Delgado from Redlands and Marie Campbell from Escondido Corps!

IN APPRECIATION

* Lt. Col. Bennetta Rody (R) writes that her mother, Vedna Jensen, was thrilled with the many greetings she received on her 100th birthday in March. Many thanks to all who remembered this wonderful lady.

* Captains Terry and Beryl Camsey thank all their friends in the West for their outpouring of care and prayers in the many cards received since the passing of the Captain’s mother.

* Roger Malmberg thanks us for the article about his father, Major Roger Malmberg (R), being promoted to Glory. His mother wanted to thank everyone for all the cards, letters and memorial gifts sent to her. They will be put towards a new organ for the Bellingham, Wash., corps.
