Army joins global call to action against corruption and bribery.
The Salvation Army is supporting EXPOSED—a global call to action against corruption, greed, secret deals, bribery and abuse of public influence.
Every year over $1 trillion goes missing from the global economy through bribes, dishonest deals and tax evasion, impacting the world’s poorest people most.
The fallout from this dishonesty is not just money lost—corruption kills. Some predictions indicate that illegal tax evasion will be responsible for 5.6 million children dying in developing countries between 2000 and 2015. That’s 1,000 children every day.
“Corruption undermines good governance and the rule of law, leads to violations of human rights, distorts markets and erodes the quality of life,” said Colonel Geanette Seymour, director of The Salvation Army’s International Social Justice Commission. “Corruption is a key element in economic under-performance and a major obstacle to poverty alleviation and development. It goes against the tenets of justice, human dignity, empathy with the needy and spiritual stewardship.”
With its partners in this endeavor, the Army is seeking 1 million people to sign the Global Call—a petition for integrity. Sign up online at https://signup.exposed2013.com/p/saisj.
Between Oct. 14-20, 2,000 vigils worldwide will take place, including opportunities for creative prayer and action for a world free of corruption. Officers and staff from The Salvation Army’s International Headquarters have been invited to attend the high-profile vigil at London’s St Paul’s Cathedral.
