Fresno celebrates sobriety
Over 280 attended the Fresno Adult Rehabilitation Center’s (ARC) sobriety banquet, which featured guest speaker Scott Harkless, reports ARC Command Secretary for Program Major Janene Zielinski. Harkless graduated from the Fresno ARC in 1994 when he was 21 years old and had only completed the 10th grade. “Following graduation he went on to Asbury College and Berkeley School of Law, scoring third highest on the bar in his class. He now works for Bank of America as their lead attorney, and has not forgotten where he got his start,” Zielinski states in the ARC newsletter, Pushing Hope.
Tucson feeds homeless
A newspaper advertisement sponsored by the Tucson, Ariz., corps, brought 300 homeless people to the corps’ first annual community Easter breakfast service. Public donations funded the fully-cooked breakfast. “Fifty volunteers served the diners under decorated tents on the site of our newly proposed hospitality house for the homeless,” states Major Estelle Clack, Tucson administration special efforts director. “Walgreens donated 100 Easter baskets for the children, and a florist donated floral centerpieces and distributed flowers to all the guests.” The Salvation Army was the only organization that held such an event in Tucson.
