Do everything readily and cheerfully—no bickering, no second-guessing allowed! Go out into the world uncorrupted, a breath of fresh air in this squalid and polluted society. Provide people with a glimpse of good living and of the living God. Philippians 2:14 (The Message)

Cold weather calls for shelters
Frigid weather in Oregon is causing a demand for beds in Salvation Army shelters. Lieutenants Ron and Fran Owens supervise and run the Army’s Harbor Light Center in the downtown Portland. Typically the shelter provides space for 90 men per night and has been filled to capacity. The shelter takes men in from 8:30 pm to 11:00 pm or until full. From November 1st to December 31st Harbor Light has housed 539 men.
Fay Schuler, program manager for The Salvation Army Female Emergency Shelter (SAFES) provides space for 12 additional single women (with a wait list of about 70). The dorm shelter opens at 7:45pm. The dorm also houses 34 single women in the regular program.
