Advisory organization members urged to attend.

According to Major Donna Hood, assistant to the national community relations and development secretary, 3000 delegates are expected in Dallas for April’s National Advisory Organizations Conference (NAOC). The conference will also encompass the National Community Relations and Development (NCRD) conference, so Hood encourages all community relations and development professionals, officers who work with advisory boards and all advisory organization members to attend.
Program highlights
Dallas Cowboys owner and National Advisory Board member Jerry Jones will be one of the keynote speakers. Other highlights will include plenary sessions about best practices, Doing the Most Good, and the scope of the international Army, where Salvationists from more than 40 countries will take part.
Jones will also host a “Dinner of Champions” at Texas Stadium with the Dallas Cowboys as part of the conference’s final evening.
Training and workshops
A special four session training track, “How to Build and Sustain a High Performance Advisory Board,” by John Pearson, past CEO of Christian Management Association, will enable delegates to promote community involvement in Army programs.
Workshops offered during NAOC/NCRD will enrich development professionals and local board and auxiliary members alike. Topics will include: Communicating to Multi-Cultural Audiences; Is Government Changing Mission?; Recruiting and retaining women’s auxiliary members; Joint Ventures & Co-Branded Fundraising; Evaluating Effectiveness; Maximizing Media Relationships; and Kroc Centers Today and Tomorrow.
“We’re excited at the prospect of combining these two important conferences into one gathering where we can all work and learn together,” said Major Victor R. Doughty, Western Territory assistant secretary for business administration. “It affords our community relations and development professionals and our advisory organization volunteers the tremendous opportunity to meet and spend time with their peers from across the country, to celebrate our successes, discuss our challenges, and gain from each others’ experiences and expertise.”
