The Concord Corps, Calif., has been given approval to proceed with Phase II of Kroc development; an architect has been selected and will be engaged by November 1, 2005. The team will work in conjunction with the already established Concord Kroc Task Force, made up of community leaders interested in providing the best services to the Concord community.

Conceptually speaking, the site will include the following components: worship, recreation, education and arts. Within those four areas of program, it will include a chapel, gym, cardiovascular area, fun pool, child-care facility, teen room, dance and aerobic area, meeting rooms, computer lab, amphitheater, and a variety of other areas that will serve the community. At first glance, before community input, the proposed Kroc center would be approximately 70,000 square feet of new construction located at the six-acre home of the Concord Corps.

We expect this to be a 27-30 million dollar capital construction, and we have completed the needs assessment and feasibility study, and are actively involved in the Capital Campaign. Today, we have a potential lead gift and a team of eager volunteers wanting to help The Salvation Army raise substantial funds for the purpose of constructing a state of the art Ray and Joan Kroc Corps Community Center in Concord.

“One of the unique aspects of this Kroc Center is that it will be part of an existing strong corps and ministry; it is one of the largest corps in the Del Oro Division,” said Captain Doug Riley, divisional secretary for business. “This will be an extension of the current ministry, and the soldiers of the Concord Corps are focusing on the outreach opportunities for evangelism.”
