by Sue Schumann Warner –
This is how much God loved the world: He gave his Son, his one and only Son. And this is why: so that no one need be destroyed; by believing in him, anyone can have a whole and lasting life.

Positive presentation
Lifetime Salvationist and Cascade Division soldier Bonnie Robb, M.Ed., will co-present “Learning, Language, and Brain-Based Literacy” at the Northwest Regional Educational Laboratory’s annual conference. The 2005 conference “The Path to AYP: Best Practices and Research-Based Tools for NW Schools” will focus on meeting accountability requirements for the No Child Left Behind Act.
Bonnie and her co-presenter Dr. Ellyn Arwood are in the middle of a four-year action research project, and will be presenting their results at this conference.
Southwest seniors have fun
The 3rd annual Senior Fun Day, held recently at Southwest Divisional Headquarters under the leadership of Major Elizabeth Clitheroe, attracted 140 Salvation Army corps and program participants for a day of fun activities and good food.
Irene Stillwell was Master of Ceremonies; Don Torgerson, Phoenix Citadel Band cornet player, provided musical entertainment. The day included activities, followed by a luncheon and devotional given by Major Harry Lacey. Also lending support were Lt. Colonels Don and Jan Mowery, Major Mona Moore, and Major Dave Clitheroe.
Helena helps out
The Montana State Advisory Council on Food and Nutrition recognized the Helena Corps for establishing a free take-out meal program to help provide food for low-income clients during the difficult last week of each month. Lt. Steve Staneart, along Victor Berg, Mary Smith and Linda Lee, accepted the award in a ceremony at the State Capitol.
Guam develops database
In order to enhance its homeless services, The Salvation Army in Guam has implemented a homeless management information (HMI) system, a database that links all the service providers on the island. According to Family Services Center Director Barbara Lucero, the information, with consent, of anyone who enters a shelter will be entered into the database. Providing a better overall case management system, it will also help the Army coordinate services with clients.
Rest assured
Exceeding expectations for its Operation: REST ASSURED fundraising campaign, the Denver Mattress Company donated $100,000 to The Salvation Army recently.
“Because of the Denver Mattress Company’s commitment to its communities, Army services such as child care, food and shelter, educational and recreational programs for kids, and housing for low income seniors will receive the support needed,” said Becky O’Guin, Intermountain director of public relations.
CONGRATULATIONS
