Majors Robert and Esther Rubin |
Majors Robert and Esther Rubin retired this year after serving a combined total of 67 years as officers.
Both attended the Training Institute for Officers in the Philippines from the Manila Central Corps. Robert was commissioned in 1958 with the Courageous Session and Esther in 1962 with the Soldiers of Christ Session.
The Rubins served in numerous corps appointments in the Philippines as both single and married officers. Major Esther also served as matron of Bethany Children’s Home while Major Robert was chaplain and corps officer of Quezon City 1 Corps. He also served as public relations secretary at Philippine THQ while Major Esther was sponsorship secretary.
In 1985, the family immigrated to the U.S. In the Hawaiian and Pacific Islands Division, they served as corps officers in Kaneohe, Honoka’a and Waioli Chapel with added responsibility at DHQ as older adult ministry secretary. They also served as chaplains at the Addiction Treatment Services in Honolulu.
In the Northern California Division they were corps officers in Merced and South San Francisco and opened a Filipino ministry in San Francisco. They retired as chaplains at the ARC in Oakland, Calif.
Through the years the Rubins remained faithful in service for the Lord. Their ministry has touched many lives.
A celebration of service was held at South San Francisco Citadel Corps presided by Major Ron Strickland, ARC commander, with Commissioner Peter Chang conducting the retirement ceremony.
The Rubins have three children, Herbert, Joy and Oliver, and four grandchildren, Ashley, Charisse, Rachel and Nathaniel.
